I've been able to run this version of fVDI under MiNT with memory protection on, but there are some problems if it's started before MiNT in this case. To run fVDI after MiNT you can for example put it as an 'exec' item in your MINT.CNF file. If there are still problems, you might want to change the flags so that fVDI is less protected by default.
GEM programs aren't supposed to access the screen directly, but unfortunately
that's not too uncommon (for example among drawing programs). The xbiosfix
and 'lineafix' options will often eliminate the problems, but they could
potentially cause other things to fail. In general it seems to be a good
idea to leave them activated.
(This is mainly affects the Eclipse/RageII.)
Some programs use bad methods to figure out how true colour pixel values are actually stored on screen. fVDI supports the vq_scrninfo call from NVDI, which is one very good way of checking this. Plotting pixels and reading them back with vro_cpyfm should also work (preferably one pixel at a time at the top left corner). Do not read from the screen directly! (This only affects the Eclipse/RageII.)
